The centerpiece is the New Town Center, which will be built at the current site of the 6-acre park-and-ride lot at the corner of Sycamore and San Pablo avenues and is expected to serve as a 24-hour hangout spot where visitors can eat, shop and relax. The lot will move to the other side of the freeway on Willow Avenue, the number of parking spaces doubling. The center’s first phase is scheduled to open in 2010.

There also are hopes of connecting Hercules Point Park with a boardwalk from the entrance of the ferry terminal. [Project manager Louise] Lopeman said the area will be an all-natural regional park.
