Local Schools

I am going to try to post a series of entries on the local Hercules schools and their latest test scores and other pertinent statistical information. I will include both the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) schools and the John Swett Unified School District schools, although the movement to have the Hercules schools be annexed into John Swett has been thoroughly squashed.

I will only include (for now) the five Hercules schools within the WCCUSD, and I do feel that is important to evaluate the John Swett schools because of the previous movement mentioned above. There are approximately 44 public schools (24 elementary, 6 middle and 10 high) within five miles of Hercules.

I was going to sum up all the schools in one post, but there is actually too much valuable data available online to group all of the schools together. The stated purpose of the posts will be an objective evaluation of the schools, and not a subjective one, although that may come at a later date.

As hundreds and thousands of new residents call Hercules their home, the added influx of students to local schools is a pressing issue, and whether or not the existing schools meet the demand or the schools are performing satisfactorily, will be important to all the residents of the Waterfront.

The following are the local schools that I will highlight in coming posts…

West Contra Costa Unified
- Hanna Ranch Elementary (map)
- Lupine Hills Elementary (map)
- Ohlone Elementary (map)
- Hercules Middle (map)
- Hercules High (map)

John Swett Unified
- Rodeo Hills Elementary (map)
- Carquinez Middle (map)
- John Swett High (map)
- Willow High (map)

If you have any opinions on any of the schools, please feel free to post a comment or email me, or if you would like, you can publish your own opinions on the schools, the district, etc., to the blog.
