Szabo Plan No More

The Szabo plan — as we knew it — is no more. That is the official word from the City coming out of this past weekend’s community update.
The City is currently working with the owner and developer of Hercules Bayfront (Anderson-Pacific) on the plans, and the location of the train station is to be as shown in the Anderson-Pacific plans, specifically, on the south side of Refugio Creek.
Final details still need to be ironed out, but the Szabo plan — the monstrosity of a big-box parking garage on the Hercules shoreline, with a four-lane highway and convention center — is no more. GL Szabo is still a consultant to the City for the project, but his ill-fated plan is now in a better place.
Louise Lopeman, consultant to the City and project manager for the multi-modal transit center, was at the community update but the plans and renderings shown at her station were outdated (she was using Szabo renderings), and Ms. Lopeman informed residents that the location of the station will actually be on the south side of the creek.
