WCCUSD Meeting Tonight
— by Jeffrey Wisniewski — 2 July 2008 — Comments Off
There is an open meeting discussing the fate of how the West Contra Costa Unified School District board will be made-up… “The Contra Costa County Office of Education, sitting as the county Commission on School District Organization, will tackle the issue at a meeting today in Richmond and ultimately determine whether the idea should go before voters in November.”
The meeting is at De Jean Middle School (3400 Macdonald Avenue in Richmond) at 6pm.
The issue is whether the school board should be elected by districts as opposed to the current at-large system. The concern from Hercules’ standpoint, which is accurate, is that the smaller communities of Hercules, Pinole and others, are under-represented because of the large population centers of Richmond and El Cerrito. As a result, the needs of Hercules are potentially not met since they are deemed to be not as important by the Board, and thus, the District (see Ohlone Elementary re-build controversy).
