Councilmember Raines To Not Seek Re-Election

Councilmember Charleen Raines will not seek re-election, according to City Clerk Doreen Mathews. Raines did not submit paperwork by the incumbent deadline last Friday. Accordingly, the filing period for potential candidates is extended five days through 5pm this Wednesday, August 13.

So far, only one potential candidate is looking to replace the incumbent. Don Kuehne, who is on the board of the fledgling Hercules Education Foundation, has taken out papers but has not submitted the paperwork (which includes at least 20 signatures) to the City Clerk.

In the case that Kuehne does qualify for the election, he along with incumbents Ed Balico and mayor Joanne Ward will be uncontested in the November election. It has not been determined whether or not Kuehne shares the views of Waterfront residents.
