Times: Litter house on the prairie

— by Jeffrey Wisniewski — 29 August 2008 — Comments Off

The state hopes you notice the trash on the side of the freeway in Hercules… “The Willow Avenue exit off eastbound Interstate 80 at the border of Rodeo and Hercules was one of several locations around the Bay Area where Caltrans crews made a ‘litter house’ of trash, furniture, appliances and other junk illegally discarded along California highways this week. The displays are intended to remind the public of the dangers of illegal dumping and the annual cost of keeping highways clear of debris. The agency said it spent $62 million statewide last year to remove trash, clean up homeless encampments and sweep freeways.”
