- “Hercules resident Tom Lynden, who argued against [Measure D] in the voters information pamphlet, said he’s concerned that the school district isn’t handling taxpayers’ money properly, and because of that he is voting no. Some schools in need of seismic upgrades have been ignored by board members overseeing the district’s school reconstruction program — a program paid for with taxpayer money, he said. And the district owes an estimated $500 million in lifetime retiree health benefits, an amount that is currently unfunded and needs to be dealt with.”
- “Charles Smith, 64, is a EBMUD treatment plant operator. He is running against Lesa McIntosh, 52, a lawyer who was first appointed to the seat in 1999 before being elected in 2000 and 2004 [as an EBMUD board of director]. The seat represents Crockett, Hercules, Rodeo, San Pablo and parts of Richmond and Pinole.”
