Hercules council race results change as vote counting continues
By Tom LochnerKuehne takes lead in council vote tally: In Contra Costa’s closest election, Don Kuehne pulled ahead of John Delgado by nine votes Friday in the race for the third available seat on the Hercules City Council. An undetermined number of provisional and absentee ballots remain to be counted, however.
Incumbents Ed Balico and Joanne Ward have comfortably won re-election, each finishing more than 1,000 votes ahead of the other two candidates.
Kuehne finished the day with 3,462 votes to Delgado’s 3,453. Delgado had led Kuehne by 13 votes prior to Friday.
Balico topped the 5,000-vote-mark Friday, finishing the day with 5,011. Ward was second with 4,836.
