A Recent History with WCCUSD

No matter the development planned along the Waterfront, or in the New Town Center corridor, or the villas built on what will become Hilltown; despite the planned growth of robust commercial activity throughout Hercules, the future success of the City is inherently tied to the condition, appeal and appearance of the school district that serves the City, the schools that residents send their children to.
The history of West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) and its relationship with the City of Hercules is — quite simply — long and complex.
Over the next several weeks, I plan on publishing news articles (and other items) from the past ten years or so that will serve to highlight the recent friction between the City and WCCUSD, including two waves of secession attempts. These items have been culled from what is available online, and will be posted here prefixed (and tagged) with “flashback.” My hope is that this will allow newer residents, myself included, to better understand the at-times tumultuous relationship.
If you have any information — be it news articles, personal experiences, or anecdotes — that may be of use, please do not hesitate to send it along, it will be very much appreciated.
