Duck Pond Park

The City will be hosting a community meeting to gather ideas and thoughts about the future Dock Pond Park (also known as the scourge of the Wall Street Journal) planned for the space currently vacant on the southern side of Sycamore Avenue across from Frog Pad Park and the municipal yard. The meeting is scheduled for 7pm next Monday (March 9) at City Hall. Draft plans are available for download.
My only concern — which may be unwarranted (or silly) — is that the horseshoe pits (shown in green below) are too close to the sidewalk and road. In my opinion, flying iron and pedestrians do not mix.* Also, the parking lot may be too large for a neighborhood park. The square footage would be better served as additional park-space. Come on, people, let’s get walking. That is what we wanted for this community, right? The park is down the street; leave the car at home.

* According to the plans, the horseshoe pits are approximately 30 feet from the sidewalk, buffered by a planting area. That seems to be a safe distance, and if the planting area is raised (e.g., a small berm), even better.

Yet another exciting piece of the puzzle that makes up Hercule’s future.
An important topic to discuss at Monday’s meeting is driveway location.
How will the Duck Pond driveway relate to the Willet intersection as well as the future school’s driveway plans across the street.
