Tow-Away On Sycamore; New Transit Center Delayed

You couldn’t have missed the placards placed along Sycamore Avenue adjacent to Sycamore Downtown yesterday or this morning. The signs advertise that as of May 5, 2009, street parking will no longer be available and the spaces will be collectively treated as a tow-away zone.

This is in all likelihood related to the upcoming construction work for Sycamore Downtown/North (work that should take upwards of 18 months and includes a hefty excavation for below-ground parking), and not just a rebuke of those who treat the available spaces as overflow parking for the nearby park-and-ride.

The park-and-ride was originally slated to be relocated this month to the new transit center (on the east side of I-80), but the project now faces a two-month delay. The City has not yet posted an updated estimate of when the new transit center will open.

The content of this post is, of course, mostly speculative and may be considered as rumor.

UPDATE — The City posted an estimate of mid-June for the opening of the new transit center.
