Times: West County teachers may strike in fall

— by Jeffrey Wisniewski — 29 June 2009 — Comments Off

It is a good thing the teachers union resisted an independent Hercules school district a few years back; that would have only resulted in a disaster for them…* “A West Contra Costa teachers strike is likely now that the union and school district have exhausted all methods of bargaining, the union president said Friday. [...] The sides have been grappling over benefits and other issues for more than a year. Union officials are angry that the district has proposed heavy district caps on health care benefits, among other things. District leaders, facing a multimillion-dollar structural deficit, have said the state’s financial problems have forced them to alter their contract offer.”

* Ahem, sarcasm.
