Elegance Returns to Transit Station

Option 4

Revised transit station, option 4

Last night’s transit station workshop presented substantial improvements to the design of our future ferry, train and bus terminal. Four alternative train shed and tower designs were presented. Option 1 was a slight improvement on the infamous Safeway Station. Option 2 had an interesting open clearstory, but was otherwise goofy and forgettable. Options 3 and 4 were virtually the same, except for the entry stair design and the placement of the tower. By the end of the night, people seemed to prefer options 1 and 4. People liked the openness and transparency of option 1, qualities that can easily be incorporated into option 4.

As it stands, option 4 could be built as is and I bet you the majority of the waterfront would sing praises to the almighty transit gods.

Tomorrow I’ll have a full featured, in-depth article for your analysis and response.

Sidenote: future public meetings will be held to discuss the following:

  • Mercado (bathroom & cafe) building;
  • Transit plaza revisions; and
  • Bus loop bridge designs.
