Times Pokes Fun At Balico

The Times’ Eye on the East Bay column poked fun at Councilmember Ed Balico for oddly requesting that Bayfront Boulevard be renamed something more waterfront-sounding

The Hercules development called Bayfront, in the estimation of Hercules Councilman Ed Balico, lacks a certain je ne sais quoi, a catchy ring that could vault it to the status of a destination, such as, maybe … Waterfront?

During a Power Point presentation last week about an intermodal transit station at the planned New Urbanist-inspired Bayfront, Balico commented, “When we started this project, I think … there was talk about changing that name Bayfront (Boulevard) to Waterfront Drive, or some other name that’s more appealing.”

Say what?

Whilst Bayfront Boulevard may not be very imaginative, it at least has alliteration going for it – along with Bayfront Bridge. But, maybe Waterfront Way would work well – as opposed to Drive. Of course, if an increase in home values are required we should give serious consideration to Caviar Court / Millionaire’s Row?

At least we won’t have to worry about property value decreasing. I hear the city manager can get the city’s afffordable housing group to buy your property from you for what you paid so you don’t lose any money. Wow!
