Café Building Redux

When the Planning Commission made their recommendation on the design of the train station on October 5, 2009, the commissioners asked the design team how the modern design of Alternative 1 would work with the planned development that would surround it. The design team deferred to the developer (Jim Anderson of AndersonPacific) to answer the question, and he outlined the importance of architectural contrast and differing styles between adjacent structures, therefore emphasizing the need for a unique design (to be “much more traditional,” as stated @ 0:30 in the video below) of the prominent cafe building…
And video of my comments to the Planning Commission on December 21…

The real issue here is not the design of the cafe but should guidelines established from community workshops be ignored. If clear guidance was established for the design of the cafe and that was not followed by the designer, the city should hire someone who will.
A pretty clear cut case of bait and switch, I’d say.
With all the other shenanigans going on at city hall, is it too much to ask for a little straight forward honesty?
