[...] Also unfortunate is the unwillingness of currently planned projects to address the problem — most notably Market Town (New Town Center) and Sycamore Crossing (part of the merged Redevelopment Area).1 Instead, the only thing the City is counting on to deal with the pedestrian issue at this prominent crossing is to “develop programs to encourage public transit use that will reduce vehicle trips by 10 percent for the intersection.” Ten percent? That won’t make this intersection safer, and an immediate fix is necessary — if only temporary — as the corner has finally been activated with the opening of the interim Market Hall.
Thank goodness Market Hall is located on a "temporary site". Chalk this project up as yet another debacle for the City of Hercules. The traffic at Sycamore Avenue was a total mess this weekend thanks to Market Hall. Not only did it choke up the very limited access to our already poorly planned City, it badly hurt our local tax paying businesses. I spoke with a manager of a shop located across the street (behind the Shell station) and they confirmed losing major business on Saturday because their customers were unable to access their stores due to Market Hall patrons filling their parking lots.

Market Hall boasts of providing more dinner options for Hercules restaurants. I agree that we need more dinner options - but we need real restaurants, not carnival food. While I fully support free enterprise, I do not support robbing our existing tax paying businesses so that we can take our families out for "Kettle Korn."

Fortunately they say Market Hall is just "temporary." So we'll have to put up with this until it's re-located to its permanent home. Sorta like how we've been waiting an entire decade for the Waterfront to be developed as promised. . . and it's still a pile of dirt.

In other words - don't hold your breath.

[...] Market Hall would be a perfect site for an annual swap meet. In the future — as Market Town is constructed on the site of the interim Market Hall — the location could possibly be along a closed Sycamore Avenue in the Sycamore Downtown area, or along Bayfront Boulevard on the waterfront, or in Refugio Valley Park (similar to the cultural festival), or even in the Home Depot parking lot (like the farmers market used to be).
@ Jeff Boore -- The cost of not developing the site is much greater than any revenue Market Hall will offer the developer. That, and the City's use permit expiration, should ensure that Market Hall is indeed an interim use.

But I do share your concern over the delays in the renovation of historical structures in the Waterfront. Where is David Cury anyway?

My only concern is that this will be "temporary" in the same sense that the clubhouse and historical houses on the waterfront are "under renovation".
