So much for the street formerly known as Bayfront. The main street of the Waterfront will retain its name… for now. (Councilmember Ed Balico could not be reached for comment.)

AndersonPacific has released its naming competition form on their website — and on time (at least something is). The contest form is a PDF file that has a submit button at the top of the first page. The instructions for submitting names for the six streets and three plazas/parks include…

  • Themes are desired to keep continuity with other areas of Hercules. Please consider the following themes when submitting names: Location, Nautical, Historical, Sustainability or Transportation.
  • Each proposed name should include an explanation of no more than 50 words on why the name is appropriate.

The contest should serve as a fun and unique opportunity for the community. Individuals who either live or work in the city are able to submit two names per street or plaza/park. This first phase of the contest will last through April 19, after which a three-judge panel will determine three finalists for each street and plaza/park for a final community vote for the winners in June.
