The Disappearing Hill at Duck Pond Park
— by Jeffrey Wisniewski — 25 March 2010 — Comments Off
The hill at the site of Duck Pond Park — formerly referred to as Eucalyptus Hill; now largely devoid of Eucalyptus — is being reshaped (but not flattened or removed, i.e., the hill will not disappear completely), in order to make the hill seem more natural and to fit in better with the planned park below. Plans have not yet been presented for the reshaped mound.
The City found the slopes to be rather unstable during tree removal, and opted to take a proactive measure in dealing with a potential safety issue. The City considered removing the hill entirely, which would have resulted in an enlarged Duck Pond Park, but ultimately decided to reshape the man-made hill (likely due to cost and concerns from residents above the hill).
