Hercules Bayfront Earns Distinction

This is bittersweet news. Waterfront developer AndersonPacific has released news that it has won an award — 2010 Gold Nugget merit winner (category 23) — for its Hercules Bayfront plan.

That is very nice, however somewhat inconsequential, because it will do nothing to further privately-funded construction along the waterfront in the near-term. All work that is being done in the city — or work starting soon, e.g., the Intermodal Station (which will commence in the fall, according to Assistant City Manager Lisa Hammon) — is because of the City and the active and now-depleted Redevelopment Agency. (The City was recently forced to pay the state $5m from its redevelopment funds.)

But, yea, awards are great.

The Hercules Bayfront plan was previously lauded by the Greenbelt Alliance and also awarded LEED-ND Gold certification.
