Times Columnist: Kuehne, Ward Should Resign

Tom Barnidge:

Hercules residents have repeatedly expressed their considerable discontent, and now they’ve gathered the signatures to force a recall vote, so you might expect Mayor Joanne Ward and Councilman Don Kuehne to the take the hint and resign their positions in the interest of community harmony.

With an election already scheduled in June to replace former Councilman Ed Balico, there is ample time for a new slate of candidates to put their names on the ballot for two additional spots. But that would make sense — little has been sensible in Hercules for a while — and it would suggest that the recall targets care more about Hercules than their egos. Admittedly, it’s a far-fetched concept.

Kuehne’s grand plan is just getting started (which is frightening). Ward is at least departing on a high note (voting for the change residents are demanding; better late than never, I guess, but too late to avoid recall, for sure).

At least one of them should resign! But we do need a quorum to keep things moving. Our June election is really important!
