Is this the same place where the police keep getting called for fights and near riots? The last episode broke the window of a new restaurant. If so, his business is costing the City money in terms of police costs. I’m having a problem imagining this person as a City Council representative. Just my opinion.
Disturbance: On January 15, at 12:22 A.M. Officers responded to a report of a large crowd causing a disturbance at the 44 Sports Lounge on Willow Avenue. The lounge was being rented for a birthday party. Officers stayed in the area until the crowd dispersed. Officers have responded to over 20 calls at the club over the last two years. The city is in contact with the club owner to prevent future disturbances of this type.

How hard is it to get an establishment in Hercules that we can actually get some benefit from?! I mean….COME ON! I knew that place was going to be a problem…how about something that the whole family can enjoy? Call me crazy..but wouldn’t that make sense?! And while were at it, maybe we could throw a little “class” into the equation as well!?
Too bad the City has not involved the State Alcohol and Beverage Commission. The track record is pretty ayismal and it seems as though the former clientele of the closed Coaches Sports Bar in Pinole have found a new venue.
This guy couldn’t be any worse than the do-nothing council member who lost his reelection bid in November, could he? You know, the one who was a staunch supporter of Oliva to the end (“best city manager ever”) and who, prior to the election, denied at a candidate’s debate that the city had a deficit. How out of touch could a city elected official be, to not even know that the city was already awash in red ink?
Wait, I guess the above description fits both the blathering ex-mayor who couldn’t stop talking even when he wasn’t saying anything intelligible, and the one who was arrested for DUI and for having a loaded, unlicensed handgun in his car. While he was a council member. Old what’s-his-name. At least he wasn’t arrested with cocaine in the car, like another ex-city official was (although that happened before he was hired by Hercules).
We’ve picked some winners in the recent past, haven’t we? No wonder the city is on the brink.
Being new here (guess you can call be a …. ‘Newclean’), there is no sense in checking out an establishment were police are called frequently. I don’t want to be an ‘accident’ or ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time’. Been there, done that, got the newpaper clippings, the book, the move, the sequel, and dvd rights. If the fella runs, great. Let’s read and see what mettle he is made of.
This is a democracy. Anyone is able to run. I, however, will be voting for Dan Romero, Gerard Boulanger, and William Wilkins! These three gentlemen have all been very active, are very knowledgeable and have no ties to anyone in City Hall, no relatives, no business contracts or dealings, no hint of cronyism! All three, by the way, also worked very hard for the Recall and have been totally transparent. Regardless of who else runs, these three have my vote!
I have learned the 44 Sports Lounge was appoved by the Planning Commission as a restaurant, not a bar, meaning they are supposed to have more than 50% food served and no drinking in front. But its a bar. I’m wondering why the Planning Commission hasn’t raised a red flag or why the owner allows the drinking in front which is apparently leading to all these fights, etc,. Perhaps if we get a candidates night we can ask the candidates about this!
Trackbacks so far …

Putting all the troubles aside his business is causing the City, has anyone seen him at a City Council meeting?
